Fable Stories
Translating fables is one of the best ways to improve one’s language level at a basic level just as native speakers do as children. Moreover, fables are foundational to cultural norms, religious beliefs, and moral codes. Therefore, with our fable translation classes we intend to open the doors of Tibetan culture to novice translators whilst guiding them on the path to translate longer and more complex Buddhist and historical texts.
Buddhist Texts

This Buddhist textbook translation class covers various texts from preliminary texts (སྔོན་འགྲོ།) and mind training texts (བློ་སྦྱོང་།), to basic philosophical texts (མཚན་ཉིད་རིག་པ།), verses of praise (བསྟོད་ཚོགས།), and biographies of Buddhist lamas (རྣམ་ཐར།). Our textbooks include carefully selected excerpts of these texts that foreground important ideas and language topics. After taking this course and covering these different aspects of the Buddhist tradition, students will be well equipped with an excellent foundation of Buddhist thought as well as translation skills.
History and Literature
Our history and literature translation class covers a wide range of historical and literature textbooks such as ancient Dunhuang manuscripts, historical textbooks from the 12th century, and contemporary novels, poems, and news articles. Textbooks used in this class are carefully abstracted from the most celebrated textbooks from the above categorical fields. Students who take this class will be equipped with general understanding of Tibetan history and literature on top of basic skills of translating Tibetan literary works into English. After this course students should be able to choose their own text and translate them into English or others.
